Death touches every one of us. It brings grief, loss, and questions that can feel impossible to answer. Yet the Gospel offers a hope that reaches beyond the grave.
This week, Col reflected on the story of Lazarus and the many accounts throughout Scripture where God demonstrated His power over death. Again and again, we see His compassion for those who mourn, His care for those who suffer, and His desire to bring comfort in the midst of loss.
Throughout Scripture we see extraordinary moments where God raises people from the dead. A widow's son, a young girl, Lazarus, and others were given life again. Yet these stories leave us with questions. Why them and not others? Why in those moments and not in every moment of grief? The Bible does not always give us those answers. Instead, these miracles point us toward a greater truth: God has power over death itself. Death is not beyond His reach, His authority, or His purposes.
Col reminded us that while every one of us will one day face death, we do not need to fear it. Because of Jesus, death has lost its final victory. As Paul writes, "For me, to live is Christ and to die is gain." For those who belong to Him, there is grief and mourning for those left behind, but there is also hope, celebration, and the assurance that something greater awaits.
This message encouraged us to lift our eyes beyond our present circumstances and fix them on the promises of God. Because of Jesus, we can live without fear, trust Him in every season, and look forward with confidence to the day when we will worship Him face to face.
